Disposal of waste batteries and electrical equipment

What should you pay attention to when disposing of used batteries?

Information about the disposal of used batteries:

Batteries and accumulators do not belong in household waste but you are legally obliged to return them. Used batteries and accumulators can contain substances that are harmful to the environment and health if they are stored or disposed of incorrectly. However they also contain important raw materials such as iron zinc manganese or nickel and are recyclable. You can return them to us after use or hand them in free of charge in your area (for example in the store at a municipal collection point or at our dispatch warehouse). Returns to the point of sale are limited to end users for the usual quantities as well as to used batteries that the seller has in its possession or has included in its new battery range.

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol means that batteries and accumulators must not be disposed of with household waste. Below this symbol you will also find the following symbols and their meanings:

  • Pb: The battery contains lead
  • CD: Battery contains cadmium
  • Hg: the battery contains mercury

What should you pay attention to when disposing of electrical and electronic equipment?

Information about electrical and electronic equipment:

We comply with the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) and would like to draw your attention to the following points as a customer:

Used electrical appliances do not belong in household waste. Consumers are legally obliged to hand them in at a designated collection point in a shop or at the town hall. You can also hand in your old appliance free of charge at our shop.

If possible remove the batteries and dispose of them as described in the section 'Information on disposal of used batteries'. For devices with memory we recommend erasing your personal data.

The waste bin symbol means that used electrical appliances should not be disposed of with household waste. They may contain substances that are harmful to the environment and health. Encourage the reuse of these appliances for example by donating them to charities. Old appliances can also be recycled because they contain important raw materials.
